DJ House Music - Danny Mekanik

The journey of Danny Mekanik spans over 35 years in House Music.

Danny Mekanik, a stalwart in the Dance Music scene, has left a mark under various aliases throughout his career. His pioneering spirit emerged in 1988 when, under the guise of This Ain’t Chicago, he crafted the UK's inaugural Acid House record with "Ride the Rhythm (Acid not placid)."

The following year, Danny teamed up with college comrade Ric Peet to form Candy Flip, achieving UK chart success in 1990 with their rendition of The Beatles' classic "Strawberry Fields Forever."

Television appearances and global performances catapulted Danny to newfound fame, setting the stage for his next venture. In 1991, alongside his brother Kelvin Andrews, Danny established Sure is Pure, garnering acclaim for their innovative EP on Gem Records. Their remixes and productions for esteemed artists solidified their reputation as the go-to UK house remixers of the early '90s.

In 1997, Danny, Kelvin, and a cadre of talented musicians formed Sound 5, releasing the album "No Illicit Dancing" in 1999. Although not a commercial triumph, the album earned enduring admiration, notably featuring a reimagined version of Barry White's "Ecstasy" that influenced Robbie Williams' hit "Rock DJ."

The dawn of the new millennium heralded the birth of Soul Mekanik, a reinvention by the brothers that yielded 14 tracks on RIP records. Their magnum opus, the album "81," epitomized leftfield house at its zenith.

Danny's creative journey continued to flourish, culminating in collaborations with Robbie Williams. Their work on the chart-topping album "Rudebox" in 2006 and "Reality Killed the Video Star" in 2009 cemented their status as industry luminaries.

In 2008, amidst their work with Robbie Williams, Danny and Kelvin were commissioned to remix "Welcome to the Pleasuredome" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, hailed as a definitive interpretation of the iconic song.

Now based in Sitges, Danny remains a prolific force in music, releasing his compositions on various platforms, including his Bandcamp store. Moreover, audiences can experience Danny's magnetic DJ sets in and around Barcelona, ensuring his enduring presence in the electronic music landscape.

Danny is also the Music Partner of Equilibrium Events SL.
